How to Find the Right Hashtags for Your Posts on Instagram
When it comes to finding the correct hashtags, there are several practices that you should take into account so that new audiences discovered your posts on Instagram.
Hashtags are still the best searchable tool on this platform. If you have a public account and add hashtags to a post, your content will be visible on the corresponding hashtag page.
Before looking for the right hashtags, there are three questions you need to ask yourself to put your content in front of your target audience.
But, how to find the right hashtags for your Instagram posts?
Instagram Search Bar is still the best option. Try looking for ultra-niche community hashtags that are specifically relevant to the content you post. For example, if I'm selling iPhone cases, instead of including the hashtag #iphonecase that has more than 5 million posts, I should try #iphonecases instead. This hashtag has 107K, or #customecaseiphone has 46K. I recommend you to use hashtags with less than 100,000 first.
Create lists of hashtags. Copying and pasting the exact same list of Instagram hashtags into every single post won't impact your engagement, and your account could be shadowbanned! The best practice is to create different lists of hashtags, depending on the type of content you're sharing.
Avoid using 'spammy hashtags.' Using over and over again vague words such as #beautiful, #likeforlike, #followforfollow could damage your engagement rate. Plus, these hashtags have more than 1 million posts, and most of the time, they're not related to your target audience.
Use Community Hashtags. Using these hashtags is a great way to connect with others, get your images in front of new audiences.
Use a third-party tool to find the right Instagram hashtags. There are many tools out there that can help you to get results almost immediately. They automatically find relevant hashtags for your posts. You can find free tools such as RiteTag and Keyhole and some other paid ones like Tailwind Hashtag Finder. No matter which one you use, it's always good to keep an eye on the hashtags that your competitors are using.
Add Instagram hashtags to your Instagram bio. Creating your own branded hashtag is a great way to encourage others to use it and to help drive engagement.
Follow hashtags on Instagram. When you find a hashtag you'd like to follow, open the hashtag page and tap the follow button. This practice also helps you to discover which kind of content people is posting and keep track of those hashtags that are still active on Instagram.
Go to your Post Insights and discover which hashtags are performing well. When you track your Instagram's analytics, you can find out how individual posts are performing better than compare specific results from each. Hit the "View Insights" on the bottom left of your post.
